  • 30 December 2002- Team YEI Table Tennis traveled to Chicago this week for the KillerSpin eXtreme Table Tennis Championship. Sixteen of the world's best players traveled to Chicago for the showcase tournament. (And the rest of us got to play in a series of events over 3 days.) Killerspin makes a great line of clothing in addition to table tennis equipment, so check them out. BTW, great job KillerSpin! We naturally have a gripe list of things we'd change -- like the nets (Nordby still hasn't convinced us) and the will-call line for tickets -- but were really impressed with the level of effort and promotion that went into the event. Thank You!
  • 4 December 2002- While most people were settling in to the usual Thanksgiving routine, the YEI Table Tennis Team was off to Baltimore for the National Teams event. Three full days of exhausting play, from early morning to late at night. Our lead team this year ("The Bubble Geese") made it to the semi-finals in their division. A special thanks to guest player Larry Hawkins from Cincinnati. Our lowest-rated player guested on team "Wingdats." We saved them all some leftover turkey and dressing...but the pie disappeared fast. Sorry! But here's to good play, and we hope you all picked up rating points!
  • 31 October 2002- Happy Halloween! Southern Ohio is starting to turn chilly, and the trees' myriad of colors is beautiful. If you haven't seen "The Ring," go see it. A good spine-tingling story, without gratuitous blood and guts. Just plain scary and suspenseful. Boo!
  • 26 September 2002- Duane complained today that he has never been on our news page. So Duane, this is for you. DUANE WAS HERE!!! DUANE WAS HERE!!! DUANE IS STILL HERE!!! You can email Duane, too: duane@yostengineering.com -- say hi, so he feels better; we suggest complimenting him on his mathematician hair :-)
  • 28 August 2002- Islands of Adventure at Universal Studios is cool! Ride Dueling Dragons, Hulk, and Fearfall. Well, as long as you like roller coasters that is! Hurry up -- summer is almost over...
  • 6 August 2002- Today the world lost a great thinker, in the passing of Edsger Wybe Dijkstra. Dijkstra developed mathematical and logical methodologies for programming, balancing brilliant theory with elegant implementation. Our condolences to his wife, Maria, and also our thanks to her for the support she gave to him in shaping the history of computing. We could not hope to even begin to summarize his huge contributions (including over 1300 publications) to computer science. Instead, we invite you to ponder one of his many brief, but profound, remarks: "The question of whether computers can think is like the question of whether submarines can swim."
  • 23 July 2002- Francesca Hartop, YEI Chief Operating Officer, was recently elected to the Board of Governors for ITAAO. ITAAO (IT Alliance of Appalachian Ohio) is a regional trade association and member of Ohio’s IT Alliance, a statewide network of six regional organizations concentrating solely on the goal of developing information technology in Ohio. ITAAO serves southern and southeastern Ohio.
  • 4 July 2002- The Annual YEI 4th of July Party welcomed lots of employees, friends & their families. BBQ started at 6, kid-dog races started at 9, and 5-year olds playing chess started at about midnight. Between all that we camped out on the roof to watch the official fireworks on the river. Various crazy guests (you know who you are, ahem Mike, Aaron, Eric, Andy) put on our very own fireworks show too...surprisingly, nothing burned down! (Hello insurance agent, yes, we're just kidding...you hope!) Thanks to Paul for the tasty BBQ, and sorry about the burned hand...next time don't pick up shish-ka-bob skewers with your hand! Happy 4th! Happy Birthday America!
  • 10 June 2002- Good grief. You mean companies actually spend time writing theme songs for themselves? Someone must have forgotten to tell us about this. Truly hilarious. Listen to assorted company songs at ZD Net UK. KPMG even has various mixes -- do they expect to be heard on dance floors across the country now? Hear hits from Ernst & Young, Honeywell, IBM, and more.
  • 18 May 2002- Congratulations to Philip Hamm, who graduated from Shawnee State University, married the girl next door, and is moving to North Carolina. We'll miss you, and hope you'll visit when you're back up this way!
  • 5 April 2002- Good luck Thomas, at this year's ACUI National Table Tennis tournament, being held at John Hopkins University. Play well, play hard, have fun.
  • 1 April 2002- Here's a crazy idea -- why not start taxes early this year? No, this is not an April Fool's joke...
  • 27 February 2002- The National Acrobats of China performed at the Vern Riffe Performing Arts Center in Portsmouth tonight. Incredible show. If they are performing near you, go see them and be amazed. Great athletic skill, plus the skits are a mix of funny and beautiful.
