- 5 December 2003- Cool! A new largest prime number has been discovered. The new number is 6,320,430 digits long, and was found during a 2-year project using a distributed network of more than 200,000 computers (the Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search -- GIMPS). For those who need a quick math refresher, prime numbers are positive integers that can only be divided by themselves and one.
- 26 October 2003- Time to change the clocks -- they go back 1 hour this time. So no, you don't have any excuse for being late to work Monday morning. Sorry, you'll have to wait until Spring for that. But if you're early, be nice and go get us all donuts :-)
- 18 October 2003- Today we got to watch a demolition crew level the 3 lots next to us. Sad that the small old buildings on them couldn't be saved (when will people ever learn to take care of their property?), but you still couldn't help but think that the track-hoe (i.e. mechanized dinosaur) is a really cool toy. Good thing they didn't leave the keys with us, or a lot more buildings might have accidentally fallen over...oops!
- 8 September 2003- Well, it's time to pack all our student programmers and interns back to school...thanks for a great summer, and we hope to keep working with you through the school year and during your breaks. And for those of you who graduated, and now get to hang around full-time -- ha! You're stuck now! Yeah, we have some projects for you...
- 10 July 2003- Most of the YEI staff was off today for the company's Kings Island roller coaster day in Cincinnati. Jimmie even rode Delirium and Son of Beast...which he had previously assured us he would never do...Tomb Raider and Face Off were also great, and of course the original Beast is always amazing (and 5 minutes of riding time too). A lot of new rides there, and you could spend all day (like some of us did for 12 straight hours) just on the extreme thrill rides -- so pack up, and plan some serious screaming before the end of your summer. It's so much easier to put your life in perspective when you're about to fall 215 feet and suddenly start to wonder if the safety belts will really hold :-)
- 4 July 2003- It's the 4th of July! Happy 4th! YEI once again hosted the annual 4th of July BBQ and fireworks party. Lots of nice and legal sparklers...and um, some other stuff. It was really cool. Did you know that you can use Roman Candles to make bankshots off of large walls, and you will think you're in the Matrix movie? Works for us!
- 9 June 2003- The Yost Engineering building, known historically as the Tracy Shoe Building, was nominated today for the National Historic Registry. We should know in the next 60 days or so if we'll be able to order a historic plaque for our 1890 building. They just don't build them like this anymore!
- 29 May 2003- We were all excited when some salesguy from AFLAC showed up here today...but then we found out that there was no duck with him. What kind of office does he think we are? No duck...no insurance. Only quacks can heal our mighty disappointment.
- 21 March 2003- If you're ever in Cincinnati, make time to visit and enjoy Teak Restaurant. Great Thai food, and one of the funniest menus you'll ever see. All the food is carefully explained so you'll be comfortable even if you don't know anything about Thai food. They are on Mt. Adams and if you want directions...hey, what are we MapQuest?
- 7 March 2003- Fashion Alert: are you a true man? Are you revolutionary, free thinking, and self-confident? Then you apparently need to update your wardrobe immediately by visiting AmeriKilt. Hey, they said it, not us...and so far our engineers haven't picked up the phone to place that order. But we're still hoping!
- 6 February 2003- We are sure that a pathologic fear of food is a very serious problem...but by the time it gets poorly translated from Japanese to English, it's pretty funny. If you need a laugh for the day, check out Cibophobia. If only all medical journal reading was this much fun (we especially love the nice artwork done in Paint)!
